Fani Willis refuses to testify in Georgia probe

The Senate probe has sought to explore her use of taxpayer dollars in light of a relationship she had with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who has stepped down from the case.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has stated that she will not testify before a state Senate panel investigating her conduct.

Willis has attracted scrutiny over her handling of a criminal case against former President Donald Trump over his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results. She indicted him and 18 codefendants in August of last year.

The Senate probe has sought to explore her use of taxpayer dollars in light of a relationship she had with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who has stepped down from the case, according to The Hill.

"First of all, I don’t think they even had the authority to subpoena me, but they need to learn the law," she said Monday, according to Fox 5."I will not appear to anything that is unlawful and I have not broken the law in any way."

Willis's case against Trump faced complications after Trump codefendant Mike Roman raised allegations that she had maintained an improper relationship with Wade and that the pair had benefited from it. Willis and Wade acknowledged the relationship but said it began after Wade's hiring.

Judge Scott McAfee in March ruled Willis could remain on the case if Wade stepped down, which he ultimately did.
