Ukraine's state security service (SBU) stopped a plot to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky and detained two security officials allegedly involved in the plan.

Russian spies had apparently attempted to infiltrate Ukraine bodyguards to carry out the attack on Zelensky.

"Yes, the enemy was actively developing plans to eliminate President Volodymyr Zelensky," the SBU said in a statement posted on Telegram.

"The network, whose activities were supervised by the FSB from Moscow, included two colonels... who 'leaked' secret information of the Russian Federation. One of the tasks of the FSB intelligence network was to search for executors among the military close to the protection of the President, who could take the Head of State hostage and later kill him," read the post.
