Police apprehended a 19-year-old man found hiding in a dormitory closet Saturday evening in connection with a shooting at Virginia State University that wounded five people.
Chesterfield County, Va. police identified the suspect as Camron Harris of Henrico, Va. and said he is not a student at the university.
The victims — one who remained in critical condition — ranged in age from 17 to 23, with only just one being a 20-year-old student at the school, police said.
Police said they obtained eight felony warrants against Harris, including for malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to The Associated Press.
The campus was put on lockdown after the overnight shooting, but police said there was no longer a threat and the lockdown was lifted.
"A shooting occurred in the area of the Quad Annexes involving multiple victims, who were transported to area hospitals," VSU Police wrote in a statement posted to X.
The university said that “multiple suspects” were involved, according to a local news report. The suspects have not been publicly identified yet.
